Terms of Service

The rules governing the free trial, purchase, and use of ChemLex.

Last updated: July 25, 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using ChemLex, or by purchasing a license on chemlex.games or via Payhip, you agree to these terms of service. If you do not agree, please do not use the software.

2. Description of the service

ChemLex is educational software for Windows that turns words into periodic-table symbols, intended for classroom or at-home educational use. ChemLex includes six modules (Learn, Play, Encode, Explorer, Stats, and the Compounds add-on).

3. Free trial

ChemLex offers a 14-day free trial, activated automatically on first launch. The free trial is limited to one use per device; any attempt to bypass this limit (for example, by resetting the app's data) is not permitted.

4. Licenses and purchases

4.1 License types

ChemLex is offered as fixed-term licenses (60-day, 365-day) or lifetime, as well as stackable classroom bundles aimed at teachers and schools (Class, Duo, Trio, Department, School, School Board). Each classroom bundle covers a maximum number of students specified at time of purchase.

4.2 Payment processing

All purchases are processed by our payment partner, Payhip. By purchasing a license, you also agree to Payhip's terms of service.

4.3 Refunds

Digital license purchases are non-refundable once the license code has been delivered, except at ChemLex's sole discretion. For any request, email us at info@chemlex.games — we will review it, without guarantee of approval.

4.4 License codes

License codes are personal to the purchaser (or the school, for classroom bundles) and must not be resold, publicly shared, or used beyond the number of devices or students permitted by the purchased license.

5. Intellectual property

ChemLex, its source code, interface, text, and visual elements are the property of ChemLex and are protected under applicable intellectual property laws. Purchasing a license grants you a right to use the software under the terms of your license, but transfers no ownership rights in the software itself.

6. Permitted use

You agree not to:

  • Decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract ChemLex's source code;
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent the license or trial-verification mechanisms;
  • Resell, redistribute, or publicly share license codes;
  • Use ChemLex for purposes other than educational or personal use, unless authorized in writing.

7. No advertising

ChemLex does not and will never display advertising, and shares no data for advertising purposes. This is a permanent commitment to our users.

8. Service availability

We make reasonable efforts to keep the software, website, and license-verification systems available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, ChemLex is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the software.

10. Security warning on download

As a new and less widely distributed piece of software, ChemLex may trigger a security warning from Windows or your browser when downloading or installing. This does not mean the software is dangerous; we provide clear instructions on this at the point of download.

11. Changes to these terms

We may modify these terms of service from time to time. The last-updated date is shown at the top of this page.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the province of Quebec and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

13. Contact us

For any question about these terms of service, email us at info@chemlex.games.
